The Star online HIP Hop fans can look forward to 90 minutes of non-stop dance performances at the Esplanade in Penang tomorrow from 8.30pm to 10pm.
State Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said the latest modern dance styles and a new genre of street dancing would be displayed at the event called Hip Hop Nite.
“The main focus will be on street jazz, popping, locking, breakdance, krumping, newschool and other funky moves,” he told a press conference after welcoming passengers from the Sun Princess cruise vessel at the Tanjung City Marina yesterday.
Law said the Hip Hop Nite was one of the many events planned for the weekly Saturday evening cultural show and activities at the Esplanade which began with a kite demonstration last Saturday.
He said another kite demonstration would be held there on Aug 8 following the success of the first demonstration.
“We will invite more players from Johor and Kelantan for the Aug 8 event where we plan to have 50 kites compared to the 25 kites we had last week.
Law said the weekly Saturday shows at the Esplande was a new effort by the state government to boost tourism.
“We hope tourism industry players, especially hotels can bring tourists to participate in these activities,” he added.
He also said there would be games for the public during the Hip Hop Nite with prizes to be won.
Entry to the event is free.
The event is also organised in conjunction with the first anniversary celebration of George Town’s joint listing as a Unesco World Heritage Site. |
